Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Yako.

Is Yako free?

Yes, Yako is completely free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license.

Does Yako collect any data?

No. Yako collects no data, has no account system, and requires only the storage permission. It fetches portal data from GitHub to stay up to date, but no personal information is sent.

What browsers does Yako support?

Yako supports Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Firefox. It also works on Chromium-based browsers like Brave.

Can I save and restore my settings?

Yes. You can export your settings as a JSON file from the Settings panel, and import them on any device to restore your configuration.

How do I reset Yako to default settings?

Open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and click Reset. You can also export your settings first as a backup.

Where does the portal data come from?

Portal data is sourced from two community projects: merill/cmd (cmd.ms shortcuts) and MSPortals.io. The extension fetches the latest data from their GitHub repositories to keep portals up to date.

Can I add my own links?

Yes. You can add custom links manually, or browse the built-in catalog of Microsoft portals and add them with one click.

Is Yako based on another project?

Yes. Yako is a fork of Bonjourr, a beautiful open source new tab extension by Victor Azevedo and Tahoe Beetschen. We added Microsoft portal search, catalog integration, and admin-focused features on top of their work. Please consider supporting Bonjourr too.
